The rule “good alone, great in company” holds true for chicken too. In this case, the travelling companions of our favourite meat are four spices, which are very different amongst them. Chicken lovers straighten your ears! In this article you will find the right flavour for your palate.
1. Turmeric
Turmeric is the main ingredient of Curry, a wonderful blend of spices loved all over the world. If you can't resist to the explosive flavours of a quick recipe of ethnic flavour, this is the ingredient that’s right for you. Like a lot of spices, turmeric is a panacea for your health: it is anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer. And in the kitchen, needless to say, it can be used to prepare a lot of treats. Some examples? You can simply marinade the chicken with this exotic preparation an hour or two beforehand and cook it in a frying pan with a drizzle of oil or create an extraordinary sauce for the meat based on milk and turmeric to which add couscous or Thai rice. Chef Fileni recommends: chicken breast, couscous and courgette
2. Ginger
In America it is used to prepare biscuits, in Japan it is never missing during a Sushi banquet. Ginger is a spice native to the Far East that has numerous benefits: it cures stomach aches, helps digest fats and gives to our dishes a lively and fancy taste. And when do you need it to season chicken? Well, that's when proposals such as chicken with citronella and ginger or ramen are born. Chef Fileni recommends: chicken breast with coconut milk and ginger
3. Cumin
Native to Syria and characterised by a strong, warm aroma, cumin is very popular in Latin countries. In Spain, for example, there is no vegetable that is not finished with a pinch of this spice. Useful for proper digestion, this tantalising ingredient is a chicken ally when it comes to impressing the palate, whether in hot preparations such as this tasty Mexican sauce or when we are speaking of the famous Goulash. However, cumin gives its best in cold preparations too. An example? This sparkling warm salad with chicken breast, courgettes and cherry tomatoes. Chef Fileni recommends: Chicken and polenta with lime
4. Chilli
If you fear nothing, not even turning into a dangerous fire-spitting dragon for an evening, chilli is the right spice for you. As caliente as a tango, as invigorating as a cold shower, this is a top tier ingredient for those who love strong flavours in their cooking. Useful in the treatment of colds such as a cold, sinusitis and bronchitis, and a fabulous aid to good digestion, chilli needs no introduction in the kitchen. It is simply extraordinary (and not just on Lovers’ Day). Chef Fileni recommends: Mexican-style kebabs with Guacamole sauce
