Today we are celebrating a great milestone. A milestone which - actually - is the starting point for a new, exciting adventure: Fileni is the first company in the world in its industry to become a B Corp. Fileni è la prima azienda al mondo nel suo settore a diventare una B Corp.
Being a B Corp means being part of a network of over 4000 companies that wants to rewrite the way of doing business at a global level, by putting sustainability, transparency and people at the first place. The aim is to realise a new paradigm, based on a logic of inclusion instead of exclusion, of levelling out social, economic, differences instead of accentuating them. Business becomes a positive and propulsive force useful to build a social, communitarian, ethical and environmental value.
But let's start from the beginning: what is the B Corp certification?
The B Corp certification, issued by the non-profit organisation B Lab, is an award given only to those companies that work according to the highest standards of social and environmental performance, that commit to building a more inclusive society, being promoters of a sustainable economy, respectful of people, animals and nature.
The B Lab institution was born in 2006 with the conviction that a different idea of business is not only possible, but necessary. It creates parameters, policies, tools and programmes that change the behaviours, culture and structure of capitalism. It mobilises the B Corp community to give birth to a collective action able to tackle society's most difficult challenges.
How does one become B Corp?
The path to certification requires a rigorous process of measuring and analysing the sustainability profile. The first step is to measure the company's performance using the B Impact Assessment (BIA), the world's most widely used standard for measuring environmental and social impact, which considers five macro areas in addition to the business model: Governance, Community, People, Environment and Customers. When the threshold of 80 points is reached (on a scale from 0 to 200), it is possible to request a review of the score which, if confirmed, allows certification.
Receiving this type of recognition has been a very important achievement for us, the result of a path of sustainable innovation that we have been bringing forward for more than 20 years. We have been committing on more fronts: from the organic industry, to the purchase of electric energy with a Guarantee of Origin, from the choice of antibiotic free breeding to the drafting of a Sustainability Statement extended to the whole supply chain and the adoption of the Benefit Company status.
In these years, we have made circularity our main driver of competitiveness, declining it in our strategic and development mission, in line with B Corp's goals. But our plans for the future are still many: we want to build a model of a regenerative, open, interdependent and replicable supply chain, able to inspire the development of responsible enterprises, local communities and of the territory.
Continue to follow us step by step on this path towards the ecological transition: together we can do much more!
